On-line MA

The on-line MA is a 30 hour program (24 hours Coursework plus 6 for the thesis); unlike the traditional program, the on-line program does not have specific tracks (concentrations). Students interested in concentrating on a specific area of study should apply to the traditional program.

In addition to English 5800 (Bib and Research Methods), students enrolled in the on-line MA must take six hours from British or American literature courses, six hours of writing or linguistics, and six hours of folklife/southern culture courses.  The remaining hours may come from any course offered in English at the graduate level. After coursework, students will write a thesis or produce 2 papers-in-lieu of thesis and take a comprehensive exam.

Students enrolled in the on-line MA program will receive priority registration for on-line courses. If students change to the traditional program, they will no longer be allowed priority registration for on-line courses. Students may not change from the on-line to the traditional program or vice-versa more than two times. On-line students will adhere to all other published requirements for the MA in English.
