Film Concentration

An exciting new program, the film concentration takes students through the basics of film, film theory, and film history to advanced courses in Genres such as Horror and Directors such as Hitchcock.

Students concentrating in film complete the following required courses, designed to provide a broad introduction to film and film studies.

·    English 3500 Introduction to Film

·    English 3510 Film Theory

·    English 3520 Film History

In addition to the basic requirements listed above, film students must take at least 15 additional hours in film and film studies.  These courses can include

·    English 4710 Film Seminar I: Directors (can be repeated when topic changes)

·    English 4980 Film Seminar II: Genres (can be repeated when topic changes)

·    English 4xxx Film Seminar III: Advanced Topics (can be repeated when topic changes)

·    English 3850 Screenwriting

·    English 3850 Film and Narrative/Literature and Film *We recommend that film students take at least one class on the American or British novel before enrolling in this class.

·    English 3230 Technical Writing.  A special section of this class will be offered to film students.  They will write location reports for film sites, whitepapers on film equipment, a brochure highlighting LA filming, a final report, as well as standard business documents.
